The green utility that manages the water service for the metropolitan City of Milan awarded for its commitment to sustainable development and dialogue with the community.

Gruppo CAP confirmed its position among the Italian excellences in the utilities sector and won the Top Utility 2025 award in the ‘Local Area and Community’ category, with the following motivation: ‘the company has stood out for its ability to promote an open, sometimes dialectic exchange with the local community, achieving positive results in the other assessment areas as well’.

The company is given the award for its unequalled ability to create shared value in its local area, promoting initiatives that benefit the community, investing in environmental and social sustainability and strengthening its relationship with citizens and stakeholders. Besides Gruppo CAP, the finalists included Contarina, Iren, Nuove Acque and Publiacqua.

Throughout the years, Gruppo CAP has launched various participatory processes that have personally involved stakeholders and citizens on projects of various kinds. Among the examples are the RAB (Residential Advisory Board), a participatory advisory body that brings together representatives of local municipalities and associations in dialogue on the Sesto San Giovanni BioPlatform project; the establishment of a well-structured and continuous dialogue with local committees on the Borsano waste-to-energy plant, managed by Neutalia, a company of which CAP is a shareholder; and the protocol with Comune di Milano’s Municipio 9 on the Bresso-Niguarda purification plant, to collect direct reports of odour nuisance episodes.

Gruppo CAP’s is a long-standing commitment to involving stakeholders and local communities in the decision-making processes that underpin the company's strategies and lines of action in the area to improve the quality of life for citizens.

Given by Althesys at the conference ‘Utilities, value for Italy' organised to present the 13th edition of the Top Utility Analysis report, the award recognises the performance and good practices of Italian utility companies. The analysis is conducted by the Althesys research team and considers parameters such as innovation, sustainability, communication and relationship with the local community.
