What is a cookie

Cookies are small text strings that sites visited by the user send to your terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored to be retransmitted to the same sites during the next visit of the same user. Cookies differ in duration, purpose and origin.

The duration of cookies can be either session or persistent: the first type of cookie is automatically deleted once the browser is closed, while the second type remains on the user's device until a predetermined expiration date.

Cookies can be used for various purposes, such as performing computer authentication, session tracking, and storing information regarding the activities of users accessing a particular site. Based on the purpose of use, you can distinguish cookies into the categories you find in the next paragraph.

Regarding origin, they can be first-party and third-party. The first-party cookie is the cookie installed by the operator of the site the user is visiting; otherwise, a cookie is third-party when it is sent from a site other than the one being viewed by the user. These third-party companies act as Autonomous Data Controllers.

Depending on the type and source of cookies, installation will or will not be subject to your consent.
