Anticipating the regulatory adaptation that made the adoption of BIM mandatory, CAP obtained certification for its innovative approach to the life cycle management of public works

Gruppo CAP has obtained the ICMQ certification for its BIM management system, in accordance with UNI/PdR 74:2019, making it one of the very few Italian companies in the water sector to boast this recognition.

The company adopted a revolutionary approach to the design, construction and management of public works by creating ‘digital twins’ of all infrastructure, ie digital 3D models that integrate all the information related to the works themselves.
Thanks to these tools, infrastructure quality can be improved, operational management optimised, errors minimised and targeted actions planned, with a positive impact on the local area, for a more efficient and resilient service.

A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE IN THE AGE OF DIGITISATION

The compulsory introduction of BIM for public procurement dates back to 2019, but as of 2025, following an amendment to the Procurement Code, the compulsoriness was also extended to public works above €2 million, marking a momentous change in the construction sector. In this context, Gruppo CAP stands out as a forerunner, since the implementation of advanced digital processes for the life cycle management of its works already started in 2019; this is proven by the ‘BIM Digital Award’ won in 2022 for the Northern Milan System project.

The implementation of the BIM system is an integral part of the strategy outlined in Gruppo CAP's new Sustainability Plan, which aims to combine technological innovation and environmental protection.
With this approach, not only does the company meet regulatory requirements, but it also strengthens its commitment to digitisation and sustainable infrastructure management.
